IBm computer company has bought several locations in SL and have set up their SL offices.

they are looking into ways of making money from the game.

apparently they own 12 islands.

But I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that IBM made its money during world war 2.
They supplied Nazi germany with the 'data recording machines' (devices that punched holes into card in certain locations to record data rather than write it all down.)

These machines were used to control everything the Nazis did, including the organizing of the 6 million jews they killed.

Although there were many other American companies making money from the Germans in world war 2, I only mention IBM as I am only aware of their presence in the game.

Yea... but that's one of the things you have to overlook to live in a capitalistic society. The businesses can't be blamed for how their technology is put to use. They're there to make money creating whatever technology they can to make money. It's like sedond life itself. They players were provided with the technology and the ability to to pretty much whatever they want... it's not linden lab's problem what people choose to do with the technology (although, yes, I realize it is from a legal standpoint... but that's just because americans have become so sue-happy and use that as a way to make easy money...)

IBM has done all sorts of great things for the personal computer industry that has led to all of us sitting on our computers at home, playing second life, enjoying the internet, and all sorts of other things we take for granted.

wow, poltical discussion in paradise lost forum!
in this case i dont want to talk about the past.
Just wanna say, that there are lots of huge problems for the hole menkind in the near future (global-warming, pollution, hunger...)
we should use our short time in life to think about that and try to handle together.
SL as an global-village could be a chance to communicate in peace about problems (and funstuff, lol) with everybody in the whole world, but its late now for talking its time to handle...
